If you’ve been following our series in 1 John, you’ve likely become familiar with author J.D. Walt’s unique approach to the Scriptures. J.D. is the founder of Seedbed, a publishing house and resource site for those of us in the Wesleyan world, and his daily Wake-Up Call devotionals are full of insight (and, by the way, you can subscribe here and have it delivered to your email inbox daily).
I’ve known J.D. for a long time, meeting him first back when he was Dean of the Chapel at Asbury Theological Seminary, my alma mater, and then working with him on the publication of my book Your Best Move: Effective Leadership Transition for the Local Church. It was a real privilege to be part of Seedbed from the very beginning and see how this ministry has grown to impact thousands of people. The Holy Spirit has really used J.D., his teaching, and his passion for the gospel to touch many lives. I’m blessed to call him a friend.
We’ve been using his book on 1 John in our classes and small groups and that’s why I was so excited to have him join Jeff and me on The Aldersgate Experience podcast. We had a wide-ranging conversation about the message of this important epistle, the “rest of the gospel,” and how churches like Aldersgate can be centers for growing disciples of Jesus who truly love God and neighbor. I invite you to watch or listen to this episode and share it widely.
This Week: Memorial Day Sunday
This Sunday, we’re pausing our 1 John series to reflect on the power of remembrance. Memorial Day is more than cookouts and parades—it’s a call to honor those who gave everything for our freedom. As we remember their sacrifice, we also look to the cross—the ultimate memorial—where Christ laid down His life so we might live. What does it mean to live a life worthy of such sacrifice? We explore how obedience, surrender, and joy build a lasting legacy of faith, so join us as Pastor Jeff Markey preaches this Memorial Day Weekend. I’ll be taking this Sunday off and look forward to seeing you as we continue our series in 1 John on June 1.
Have a great week!
