One of the things I enjoy during my commute to and from work is listening to podcasts. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the genre, a podcast is basically a pre-recorded internet radio show that you can access online or on your phone through a podcast host like Spotify or Apple Podcasts (you can download those on your App Store). You subscribe to the podcast and new episodes appear when they are uploaded. It’s a great format for listening to all kinds of shows while you’re on the go, whether in the car or walking the neighborhood.
I’ve also hosted a couple of my own podcasts, including one for the Wesleyan Covenant Association and “Wednesdays with Wesley.” One of my early civilian jobs was in commercial radio, where I wrote and produced commercials using the ancient technology of audio tape. It’s a lot easier now in the digital world, and I love how easy it is now to have access to great content.
To that end, we’re beginning a new podcast for Aldersgate Church called “The Aldersgate Experience.” It’s a podcast designed to provide some commentary and discussion about the previous Sunday’s sermon. Each week, Pastor Jeff and I will introduce the sermon, then you’ll get a chance to hear the audio version from Sunday morning, followed by our discussion. We’ll talk about some of the important points, look at some of things that didn’t make it in the sermon due to time constraints and, most importantly, answer your questions. We encourage you to submit your questions on Sunday using the Connection Card in your bulletin, or you can email them to us. This is a great way to make our Sunday sermons more interactive and give you a chance to go deeper.
Our first episodes are now up, and this “Fables for Families” series is a great place to start. We will publish each week’s episode on Wednesday. I hope this will be a useful resource for you to use and to share with others, as well as provide some background material for small groups who want to go deeper into the message and the Scriptures.
Subscribe to “The Aldersgate Experience,” submit your questions, and join us for the conversation!
